Battle Ground (2013) | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Simon Foster sbs.com.au While Forbidden Ground can't match the scope of Peter Weir's Gallipoli and Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory in its tough-minded depiction of the First World War, the film successfully captures the personal tragedy and human sacrifice of the experience. Jos D This movie was very well portrayed for the narrative that they were trying to show. Many of you don't know this, but this depiction was of the battle of the Somme. I'm not going Into the historical reason for this battle or why historically many actions were very real, some not so much. But the moral is very clear here; and that there is much factual history put into this but to say this film was lame or ignorant. You fellas are the ones ignorant and clearly didn't interpret the message. It was trying to show. This wasn't as much as a battle reproduction. More over a movie more as reaching the feeling and reality of many soldiers. A very touching message was sent to those that understand. Good day. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I haven't watched anything as grim as this in a long time. It was mostly blokes with missing legs rolling around in mud and being shot at by nasty evil Germans. Then every so often it cuts to someone performing an abortion on the heroes wife with a meat hook. SPOILER Low and behold, at the end the meat hook girl was the girlfriend of the bloke who lost a leg.The portrayal of the Lieutenant forcing men to certain death was unforgivable really. To take it further and make him order a sniper to kill his own men was a step too far. Undeveloped characters and caricatures. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Awfully presentation of WW1 history in ridiculous propoganda angle portraying one side as heroes and other like pure evil. Film is utterly boring and I regret watching it Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member (watched under its original title 'Forbidden Ground' on Netflix) Having read a fair number of audience reviews before writing mine, I could just say 'see all of the above'. Lol. Difficult to know why Johan Earl thought it a good idea to monopolise behind camera AND star in front of it too! He shouldn't have. The writing fails to deliver any sense of emotional connection with any of the characters, nor does it seem to know what the actual story is about - the subplots and dialogue seem to suggest the film is about any number of war-based themes, without ever connecting to one identifiable thread. As for the film score, it is a very poor match to the mood they're trying to create. Having at least a handful of actual British and Irish actors in the cast would have been a good idea... I won't go into how poorly the German soldiers are portrayed! Overall, an inadequate film, poorly cast and lacking in objectivity behind the camera. The only reason I'm not scoring it 0.5 or 1 out of 5, is that the No Man's Land set is likely the most accurate you'll see in a film, and that deserves recognition in itself Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review adam b Boring and cheap. Surprised Lionsgate released this. Avoid entirely Rated 1.5/5 Stars • Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review andy f A disappointing WW1 movie that doesn't really make you like or feel for any of the characters - especially the lead. It's grim but strangely unmoving. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
