The new Salvager’s Salvo seasonal ritual weapon was added with the arrival of Season of the Chosen in Destiny 2. Once players have unlocked the breech-loaded grenade launcher, they can unlock three more ornaments that change the weapon’s appearance to match Vanguard Strikes, the Crucible, or Gambit.

Salvager’s Salvo is a very potent energy weapon that is great for clearing out groups of weak enemies thanks to one of its perks, Chain Reaction. This perk causes enemies killed by the Grenade Launcher explosion to explode as well, causing even more destruction, making it a lot like the Loaded Question Fusion Rifle that was sunset when Beyond Light released.
Updated May 26th, 2021 by Russ Boswell: The Salvager's Salvo is easily one of the most entertaining weapons to grace Destiny 2, and developers did a fantastic job giving players even more customization for it by offering unlockable ornaments. To better celebrate the Salvager's Salvo and its lineup of beautifully designed activity-specific ornaments, we decided to head back into this resource and shine things up with more information regarding the ornament quests. If you're looking to get your hands on Destiny 2's Salvager's Salvo ornaments then be sure to check out this updated guide.
How Do You Get The Salvager's Salvo?
- Complete 7,500 Points in Vanguard Strikes, Crucible, or Gambit.
- Gain 100% in Matches Completed for Vanguard Strikes, Crucible, or Gambit.
Grabbing the Salvager's Salvo, thankfully, isn't too frustrating. Anyone just now joining in on the Season of the Chosen will find the Messy Business quest by speaking to Banshee-44. You won't have to be a pro at PVP (or suffer PVE if you love the crucible) to snag this unique grenade launcher. For more in-depth information on the Messy Business quest and everything required to finish it, be sure to check out our guide here.

Once you have the grenade launcher in hand, you can go after its ornaments. Each of the core activities in Destiny 2 – Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit – have special quests that reward players with uniquely themed ornaments to put on Salvager’s Salvo. There are also some weekly seasonal challenges that require players to unlock these ornaments, so players can also get Bright Dust and XP for completing these quests.
Vanguard Strikes – Panacea Ornament
To get started on this quest, players will need to speak to Commander Zavala in the Tower Courtyard and collect the quest from his “Quests” section on the second page of his item inventory. Next, players need to complete these objectives:
- Get Grenade Launcher kills.
- Earn points by completing Strikes.
As the quest text states, rapidly defeating enemies with Grenade Launchers and getting Grenade Launcher kills will award players with bonus progress. To complete these objectives quickly, players should stick to running Nightfall Strikes at lower difficulties, with this week’s Nightfall (as of writing) being the new Proving Ground Strike.
Players should also run a double Grenade Launcher loadout. One suggested loadout would be to pair Salvager’s Salvo with an exotic Grenade Launcher, such as Anarchy or The Colony. Alternatively, players could opt for using Witherhoard, especially with its auto-loading catalyst, and a legendary Grenade Launcher like Crowd Pleaser or Blast Battue from Season of the Hunt.
Once those objectives have been completed, players need to return to Zavala to collect the Panacea ornament. Getting this ornament will also complete a seasonal challenge from week eight that will award Bright Dust and XP.
Crucible – Pyretic Ornament
Players should speak to Lord Shaxx in the Tower Courtyard and check his “Quests” section to get started on the Crucible challenge. To unlock the Pyretic ornament, players need to complete these objectives:
- Get 30 Grenade Launcher final blows.
- Earn six Valor ranks.

Bonus progress for the 30 kills can be earned if players get multikills instead, which substantially cuts down the number of kills required. As with Strikes, a double Grenade Launcher loadout will help players get through this quest quickly. This time, players should jump into some Crucible matches – ideally Control - and pair the exotic Fighting Lion with a legendary Grenade Launcher. Fighting Lion’s high ammo capacity will help players get through the kills and the occasional heavy ammo drop can allow players to get multi-kills with their heavy Grenade Launcher. Due to its large damaging pool, Witherhoard can also be a good choice.
As for the Valor ranks, players simply need to play lots of Crucible matches until they earn enough ranks. Any players that are not huge fans of PvP in Destiny 2 could wait until a bonus Valor week rolls around, which will help them get rank up their Valor quickly.
Return to Lord Shaxx to collect the ornament once those objectives have been completed. Getting this ornament will also complete a seasonal challenge from week six that will award Bright Dust and XP.
Gambit – Toxicology Ornament
Lastly, players should visit the Drifter down in the Tower Annex and collect the Gambit ornament quest from his “Quests” section. Players need to complete these objectives to get the Toxicology ornament:
- Get 100 Grenade Launcher final blows.
- Bank motes.
For the Grenade Launcher kills, bonus progress can be earned by getting multi-kills. Again, a double Grande Launcher loadout is highly recommended, with Salvager’s Salvo or Witherhoard being excellent choices due to their ability to quickly kill large groups of enemies.

As for banking motes, this is a critical part of playing Gambit normally. To get the most out of each match, players should focus on quickly collecting motes, regardless of how many, and then banking them. Players should also avoid invading and always be ready to hide from invaders to protect their motes. This objective is far harder to complete than the Grenade Launcher kills, so once players get the kills, they can switch to their preferred Gambit loadout for collecting motes.
Return to the Drifter once these objectives have been complete to collect the Toxicology ornament. Getting this ornament will also complete a seasonal challenge from week seven that will award Bright Dust and XP.
So get out there and complete all three of these Salvager's Salvo ornament quests and proudly display your love for Destiny 2's various modes. Destiny 2: Beyond Light and the new Season of the Chosen are available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S
